Drone-based delivery from Al Samha to Khalifa Industrial Zone was tested by Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Mobility, together with LODD Autonomous, conducted the flight. The drone had a sophisticated navigation system and a robotic arm.
Nearly three months ago, Abu Dhabi witnessed its first successful drone parcel delivery using a winch-based system.
The drone was used to deliver a mock package from a nearby post office to a drop zone during the June testing in Khalifa City. The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) supported the operation, which was carried out by logistics holding group 7X and aviation technology company LODD.
According to its CEO, Abu Dhabi's LODD plans to start deploying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for parcel and cargo deliveries by the second half of 2026, with flights being tested on a regular basis. The services will be provided for a "fraction of the cost."
