According to Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of Transportation Systems at RTA's Public Transport Agency, autonomous taxi pilot testing are now taking place in a few areas of the city, including Jumeirah.
The changes come after RTA signed Memorandums of Understanding this year with international autonomous car companies Baidu (Apollo Go), Pony.ai, and WeRide to launch these services in the city.
All three businesses have finished preliminary testing, which was conducted on both closed and open roads in Dubai Silicon Oasis. Trial licenses given by the RTA were followed by open-road testing.
