The second stage of a comprehensive renovation of the ventilation and air conditioning systems throughout the Red and Green Lines of Dubai Metro has been finished by the Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), working through its Rail Agency.
Improved passenger comfort, increased operational effectiveness, and long-term sustainability of transportation infrastructure are the goals of the projects, which are a component of RTA's 2024–2030 Strategic Plan.
The project, which was carried out in association with Keolis-MHI, Dubai Metro's operations and maintenance partner, is in line with RTA's mission to lead the world in sustainable and seamless mobility.
The Rail Agency renovated 876 ventilation and cooling facilities in two parking lots and 14 Red Line stations during this second phase. Air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), chilled water pumps, extract and smoke extract fans, and pressurization systems were among the essential parts that were renovated or replaced.
Additionally, technicians performed comprehensive chores like dynamic balancing, deep system cleaning, and coil and bearing replacements, returning each unit to optimal, design-intended performance. Notably, there was no interruption to metro services during the project's completion.
The idea was created with the difficult climate of Dubai in mind. During the summer, when temperatures outside climb, metro stations are constantly filled with hot air from the arrival of trains and the opening of doors.
Passenger comfort and system resilience depend on the improved cooling systems' ability to consistently maintain an internal temperature of 24 to 25°C. To ensure smooth travel experiences during the implementation period, the entire 10-month program was scheduled during night shifts and off-peak hours to avoid interfering with daily operations.
