Dubai RTA pilots AI Project to cut motorcycle accidents by 50%

An artificial intelligence-driven technology being piloted by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) aims to cut motorbike accidents by at least 50%. In order to make sure that riders are qualified, driving safely, and adhering to the designated location limitations, the AI for Safe Cities campaign will install cameras, face recognition, and telematics systems.

In its pilot stage, the system is presently being tested on 12,000 motorcycles from different distribution platforms.

By the second quarter of 2026, the system is expected to be implemented across all delivery bikes nationwide, according to Saeed AlRamsi, Director at the RTA. He noted that there are currently around 65,000 delivery bikes in operation, with the number steadily rising as new companies enter the market. “This project plays a vital role in encouraging safer driving among delivery riders and enhancing overall road safety,” he said.

AlRamsi added that in the future, the system will also be integrated with the UAE Pass and the rider’s Emirates ID.
