The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has revealed that it made an incredible Dh97.95 million from its 119th open auction for unique car license plates.
The special plate (BB 88), the auction's highest bidder, went for an astounding Dh14 million, making it the evening's star. Other high-end transactions included the legendary (BB 777), which brought in Dh6 million, (M 78) for Dh6 million, and (Y31) for Dh6.27 million.
Ninety sought-after plates with two to five digit numbers (AA, BB, K, L, M, N, P, Q, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z) were on display at the event, which took place on Saturday at the Grand Hyatt Dubai Hotel. The uncommon "super plates" (BB 88) and (BB 777), which both attracted fierce bidder competition, were among the top attractions.
A Dubai traffic file and a Dh25,000 security check made out to RTA were prerequisites for participation, as was a Dh120 non-refundable entrance fee. The RTA website was another easy way to make payments.
