Masdar City, in collaboration with Solutions+, a Mubadala subsidiary that provides smart transportation, has started testing level 4 autonomous vehicles (AV) in the city. Autonomous vehicle registration, testing, and operating approval have all been part of the program, which is managed by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC). This has ensured safety, compliance, and consistency with Abu Dhabi's larger vision for smart mobility.
Since Level 4 automation allows the vehicle to function fully autonomously within a designated geofenced area, it represents a substantial advancement in AV technology.
In addition to passing notable landmarks like the International Renewable Energy Agency headquarters, MC2, and The Link, the vehicles are traveling a thorough 2.4 km test route that connects a number of significant locations, including the Siemens building, North Car Park, My City Centre Masdar mall, and Central Park. Initially equipped with safety officers, the AVs will eventually operate entirely on their own from a centralized remote control room as the program advances.
The initiative, which is a part of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council's (SASC) strategy, highlights Masdar City's role in promoting autonomous transportation as a global center for clean technology and the location of the Smart Autonomous Vehicles Industry (SAVI) cluster. It also shows the emirate's dedication to creating innovation and influencing the future through cutting-edge technology.
