Strong southeasterly winds with maximum gusts of 40 km/h are sweeping across portions of the United Arab Emirates today, Wednesday, according to a weather warning issued by the National Center of Meteorology (NCM). In certain coastal and interior regions, the gusts are predicted to generate blowing dust and sand, drastically lowering horizontal vision to less than 2,000 meters.
Following an earlier warning of unstable weather conditions, including severe heat and the possibility of convective rains in eastern parts, the advisory is in force from 8.45 am to 5:00 pm.
Abu Dhabi Police have warned drivers to be extremely cautious due to the dangerous driving conditions.
In an official statement, the police stated, "We advise drivers to remain alert and reduce speed due to low visibility caused by high winds and dust." "Please refrain from using cell phones or recording videos while driving for your own safety as well as the safety of other drivers."
It is also recommended that residents secure loose objects outside, stay within whenever possible, and follow official meteorological channels.
