The annual Perseids meteor shower is set to return to UAE skies, offering stargazers a chance to see dozens of meteors each hour under ideal conditions.
The shower will be most visible between Wednesday, August 12 and Thursday, August 13, with darker locations away from city lights offering the best viewing conditions.
Dubai Astronomy Group will also host a Perseids viewing event at Al Katim Desert in Abu Dhabi on August 12, with tickets starting at Dh160.
Best UAE Spots to Watch the Perseid Meteor Shower:
- Al Quaa Milky Way Spot, Abu Dhabi: Located about 90 minutes from Abu Dhabi towards Al Ain. A 4×4 and good desert-driving skills are recommended. Free and open 24/7.
- Shuweihat Island: Around a four-hour drive from Dubai, this remote location offers dark skies and peaceful surroundings. A 4×4 is recommended. Free to visit.
- Hatta: About 1.5 hours from Dubai, Hatta’s Hajar Mountains offer good stargazing opportunities. However, some light pollution may be visible due to its proximity to populated areas.
