Prophet’s Birthday: Sept 5 announced as public holiday for federal government staff

Friday, September 5, 2025, the 12th of Rabi Al Awwal, will be a public holiday for federal government employees in observance of the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) birthday, according to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

Given that the event falls on Saturday and Sunday, public employees will benefit from an extended three-day weekend.

The crescent of Rabi Al Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, was not visible throughout the Arab world on Saturday, August 23, 2025, according to a statement released by the International Astronomy Center in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

The Prophet Muhammad's birthday, which falls on Friday, September 5, the 12th of Rabi Al Awwal, is similarly fixed by the astronomical schedule.
