The On-Demand Buses program is the first phase of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority's (SRTA) plan. The Aljada development, Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Al Qasimi Boulevard, and the Muwaileh Commercial Area are important residential areas with a high population density and fast urban growth that are covered by this service.
This cutting-edge service provides travelers with a convenient and direct way to get from their homes to their daily destinations, particularly in places where the existing public bus system does not adequately serve.
With a basic fee of AED 8 each journey, the initial phase consists of two buses that run daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Youngsters under five get free admission. Through a smart app that enables cashless payments and immediate quality feedback, users may request and follow buses in real time. Without being constrained by predetermined bus stops or schedules, the system allows users to choose their pick-up and drop-off locations, providing flexibility catered to the needs of both locals and guests. The service lessens reliance on private vehicles and increases accessibility by making it easy to go from residential regions to everyday locations such as business centers, dining establishments, service stations, and workplaces.
Internal surveillance cameras are used in buses to provide a secure ride. The buses, which are connected to AI systems, gather data on passenger counts, demographics, and usage trends in real time. This allows for data-driven decision-making for better operations and long-term planning. With features that guarantee simple boarding and mobility, the buses are also designed to fit individuals with a strong will.
The debut took place over the Eid Al-Adha holidays, which was a perfect time because more people were traveling. The project is a part of SRTA's long-term plan to build a smart, sustainable, and scalable transportation system.
