An iconic venue that is transforming the future of live entertainment is The Sphere, which is situated east of the Las Vegas Strip. Now, a second Sphere will illuminate the skyline of Abu Dhabi, offering the UAE a completely immersive entertainment experience.
An exclusive 10-year contract to construct Sphere venues throughout the Middle East and North Africa has been struck by the Department of Culture and Tourism — Abu Dhabi (DCT). The transaction comes after Sphere Entertainment, a US company, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last month.
Announced in October, Sphere Abu Dhabi will be the second venue of its kind. Under the agreement, DCT will be licensed to use Sphere’s creative content, including Sphere Experiences, as well as its brand, technology, patents, and intellectual property. Sphere Entertainment will provide operational services, along with commercial and strategic advisory support.
Sphere Abu Dhabi, which was revealed in October, will be the second location of its kind. The agreement grants DCT a license to utilize Sphere's brand, technology, patents, intellectual property, and creative content, including Sphere Experiences. Sphere Entertainment will offer commercial and strategic consultancy help in addition to operational services. The agreement to bring the second Sphere to Abu Dhabi was confirmed by Sphere Entertainment Group and DCT. The original agreement is valid for 25 years after the arena opens, and DCT may choose to extend it for two more 10-year periods.
DCT has also been given the only right to construct and run Sphere Abu Dhabi, and it may construct more venues in the Middle East and North Africa for at least ten years following the Abu Dhabi opening, according a July 28 SEC filing.
No dates for construction or opening have been disclosed. Only that Sphere Abu Dhabi will be constructed in a "prime spot" in the capital of the United Arab Emirates was disclosed by the business.
