UAE banks will begin to phase out the use of one-time passwords (OTPs) for digital transactions via email and SMS on July 25, 2025.
All forms of online transactions including domestic and international money transfers will be affected by the move. Banks will use in-app confirmation tools for authentication using mobile banking apps in place of OTPs.
The change will be executed in phases and is in accordance with directions from the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.
The modification attempts to strengthen security and lower the fraud risks related to OTPs sent by email or SMS.
