Al Maktoum International Airport will feature a major automated people mover system as it prepares to eventually handle up to 260 million passengers annually.
Dubai airport authorities have awarded the project to Japan’s Mitsubishi and India’s Larsen & Toubro. The underground train network will connect terminals and key facilities, with completion expected by December 2031 ahead of the planned 2032 transfer of operations from Dubai International Airport.
The new system will improve passenger convenience, reduce travel times and support efficient airport operations as demand grows.
At the expanded Al Maktoum International Airport, journeys between terminals and key facilities are expected to take 15–20 minutes, with seating provided on trains for added comfort.
The automated people mover will be built by the same consortium behind the Dubai Metro and DXB Terminal 3’s passenger transport system.
