Abu Dhabi will implement new improvements to the Darb road toll system, including modifications to the evening tariff hours. The evening peak time is now set at 3 to 7 p.m., while the morning peak time, which is 7 to 9 a.m., Monday through Saturday, stays the same. Sundays and official public holidays will still be free of tolls.
As part of its attempts to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion on major routes during peak hours, the Department of Municipalities and Transport's Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) announced the adjustments earlier this month.
Additionally, the existing daily and monthly toll caps for private vehicles will no longer apply as part of the modifications. This implies that the former cap on the maximum toll charge per vehicle—Dh16 per day, and Dh200, Dh150, and Dh100 per month for the first, second, and third (and later) cars, respectively—will no longer be in effect.
The Darb gates in Abu Dhabi will still impose a toll of Dh4 each crossing. The present exemption provision, however, is still in effect for qualified groups, such as low-income families, pensioners, older adults, and automobiles of persons of determination.
On Monday, September 1, 2025, the new tariff restrictions will take effect, according to confirmation from the ITC.
Darb’s toll system is overseen by Q Mobility, a subsidiary of ADQ, which handles the latest adjustments in collaboration with the concerned authorities.
The toll gates were first rolled out in Abu Dhabi in January 2021. Vehicle registration costs AED 100, of which AED 50 is added to the user’s account balance.
