A major underground transport project backed by Elon Musk is set to reshape traffic in Dubai. Developed by the Boring Company, the Dubai Loop will feature underground tunnels with a capacity of up to 30,000 passengers per day. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has announced the first phase of the Dh2.5 billion project, which includes a 6.4km pilot route with four stations linking DIFC and Dubai Mall.
The pilot phase is expected to serve around 13,000 passengers daily and will pave the way for a 22.2km network with 19 stations connecting key areas such as Dubai World Trade Centre, the financial district and Business Bay.
First unveiled in 2025, the Dubai Loop will offer direct, non-stop travel at speeds of up to 160km/h, using advanced tunnelling technology designed to reduce costs and minimise disruption.
