Dubai residents and citizens can now obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) in just five minutes at Dubai International Airport. Available 24/7 at the Terminal 3 Arrivals Customer Happiness Centre, the service is open to valid UAE driving licence holders and was launched by GDRFA Dubai in partnership with RTA, Emirates Automobile and Touring Club, and Amer.
Applicants must provide their Emirates ID, valid UAE driving licence, passport copy and a personal photo.
An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a recognised translation of a UAE driving licence, allowing motorists to drive legally in many countries without taking another test or obtaining a local licence. It is valid for one year and must be used with the UAE licence.
Dubai motorists can also apply through the RTA or Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE, with fees and processing times varying by service. However, GDRFA has not yet announced the fee for the new five-minute airport service, which is designed to help travellers obtain an IDP shortly before departure.
Integrated digital systems automatically verify applicants’ details and approve requests instantly, allowing the International Driving Permit to be issued within five minutes.
