Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has approved a new regulation requiring motorcycles and e-bikes used in corporate delivery services to carry a front number plate in addition to the existing rear plate.
The new plates will feature a gold background with black lettering and display the code (9). The requirement will take effect at the end of December and will be introduced gradually during licence renewals. It applies exclusively to commercial delivery vehicles and does not include privately owned motorcycles.
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, said the decision covers motorcycles used for parcel, document, and message delivery, order management, and deliveries operated through digital platforms and smart applications, as well as motorcycles and e-bikes rented for these purposes.
Mahboob explained that the move reflects the rapid growth of the delivery sector and the increasing number of motorcycles on Dubai’s roads. He added that the regulation aims to improve road safety, enhance delivery operations, and strengthen traffic discipline, supporting RTA’s priority of protecting all road users. The initiative forms part of joint efforts between RTA and Dubai Police General Headquarters.
