Roads and Transport Authority has announced the launch of commercial self-driving taxi services in two areas of Dubai, starting March 30.
The autonomous service will initially operate in Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah through partnerships with Apollo Go and WeRide.
WeRide’s vehicles can be booked via the Uber app, with Tolool for Transportation handling fleet operations. Meanwhile, Apollo Go — a subsidiary of Baidu — will offer rides through its own app in collaboration with Dubai Taxi Company.
The initial rollout includes 100 autonomous taxis, with plans to gradually expand the fleet across the city in the coming years.
