Dubai is taking a major step toward becoming one of the world’s most walkable cities, as the Roads and Transport Authority launches its ambitious Dubai Walk Master Plan. The initiative aims to develop over 6,000km of walkways across 160 areas by 2040, reshaping how people move around the city.
The first phase (2025–2027) begins in Al Ras, introducing 12km of pedestrian paths and 5km of cycling tracks while preserving the district’s historic charm. The Historic Al Ras Walkway will link key landmarks such as Al Fahidi Fort and Al Shindagha Historic District, creating a continuous cultural route enhanced with shaded paths, seating, and clear signage.
The project will connect to 11 metro, bus, and marine stations, improving accessibility and encouraging public transport use. It also introduces smart features like digital wayfinding and climate-friendly elements such as shaded walkways and cooling systems.
Beyond mobility, the plan promotes culture and community through artistic spaces developed with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, alongside public art and events. Overall, it supports Dubai’s “20-minute city” vision—making daily life more connected, sustainable, and people-friendly.
