Dubai’s nol card system will shift to a digital, account-based ticketing platform early next year, allowing commuters to pay using QR tickets, digital wallets, bank cards, and upgraded nol cards across the city’s public transport network.
Dubai nol card upgrade: Key changes
Three-phase rollout:
Phase 1: QR code ticketing via digital channels.
Phase 2: New-generation nol cards linked to customer accounts and compatible with bank card technology.
Phase 3: Payments using bank cards and digital wallets across Dubai's public transport.
The system upgrade is 72% complete, according to the RTA.
Users will be able to:
- Create and manage nol accounts.
- Link nol cards to accounts and smartphone digital wallets.
- Buy tickets using QR codes.
- View transactions, block lost cards and recover balances.
= Link family members' nol cards and enable automatic top-ups.
The upgraded system will also support more flexible public transport fares, with pricing details to be announced later.
The new nol cards can also be used for shopping at retail outlets and digital channels across the UAE, similar to bank cards.
