Dubai unveils driverless Glydways to ease traffic

Dubai is set to introduce a new futuristic transport system as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled plans for Glydways, a network of small, self-driving electric vehicles that will run on narrow, dedicated tracks, separate from regular road traffic.

According to the RTA, the system will be capable of transporting more than 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with vehicles operating at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Each driverless pod will carry four to six passengers and have a range of up to 250 km.

The system will run on narrow, dedicated guideways, either at ground level or elevated, separate from regular traffic.

The project is planned for four locations across Dubai and could be rolled out by the end of the year, including a 2.8 km route between National Paints Metro Station and Bluewaters.

It will also extend to Madinat Jumeirah, Alserkal Avenue, Times Square Centre and Dubai Festival City.

In April 2026, Glydways partnered with Parkin to introduce a park-and-ride system at multi-storey parking facilities across the city.
