Emirates members can no longer use the Skywards Miles program to book First Class flights for children under the age of eight.
Frequent travelers can use Skywards Miles to pay for flights and activities in Dubai. Skywards Miles is the name of the airline's rewards program, which is based in DXB.
Under the revised policy, families who plan to use Skywards Miles or a combination of Skywards Miles and cash to book flights for children under the age of eight are no longer able to do so for First Class flights.
Additionally, families cannot upgrade children under eight to the First Class cabin using their current Skywards Miles.
Families with children under the age of eight are still able to purchase First Class tickets with cash, thus this does not completely prohibit small children from traveling in First Class on Emirates flights.
The full details of Emirates' Skywards rewards policy are available here. An archived copy of the terms and conditions page indicates that the upgrade was probably discreetly implemented in August.
To reflect the modifications, new language has been added to the Skywards Skysurfers and Classic Rewards subsections.
Under-18-year-old Skywards members are known as Skysurfers by the airline and are still able to accrue Skywards Miles on all Emirates and flydubai flights in all cabins.
Skysurfers who are nine years of age or older who are silver, gold, or platinum Emirates Classic Rewards members are still eligible for First Class Emirates benefits, such as First Class flight reservations and First Class flight upgrades.
