His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, attended the Dubai Metro Blue Line's foundation stone laying ceremony, which marked a significant turning point in the development of the city's public transit system.
The new line, which will span 30 kilometers and have 14 stations, will revolutionize travel in nine important districts that are expected to house more than a million people, according to the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The renowned Emaar Properties Station, the world's tallest metro station at 74 meters, was also authorized by His Highness for its unique architectural design.
The station was created by the world-renowned American architectural company Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), one of the top design studios in the world, and was inspired by the idea of a crossing gateway. Famous landmarks including the Burj Khalifa, the Olympic Tower in New York, and the Sears Tower in Chicago are all part of the firm's portfolio.
The station represents the idea of "Dubai: A Gateway to the Future" and is made to blend in seamlessly with the current metropolitan landscape. The station, which occupies around 11,000 square meters, can handle up to 160,000 passengers daily, and by 2040, it is anticipated that daily usage will surpass 70,000.
