Drivers from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali now have direct access to the Mall of the Emirates with the opening of a new 300-meter bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with Majid Al Futtaim Properties.
It is anticipated that the single-lane bridge, which can accommodate up to 900 vehicles per hour, will reduce the 10-minute travel time to the mall to just one minute. The project also upgraded the mall's entrances, surrounding roads, crossroads, bike lanes, and pedestrian walkways. It also changed the one-way traffic on the road next to the Kempinski Hotel to two-way.
The new bridge was constructed, the southbound ramp at Umm Suqeim junction was widened, and the intersection itself was upgraded to facilitate traffic from Umm Suqeim Street to the mall's parking lots.
Additionally, RTA created six signalized intersections, improved 2.5 km of at-grade roads surrounding the mall, and made modifications to the bus station at the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station. Along with bettering road paving, lighting, traffic signals, stormwater drainage, and landscaping, the project also improved bike and pedestrian paths.
