Sharjah has launched ‘Masar’, an electronic toll system for heavy vehicles that replaces manual collection with automated, data-driven enforcement.
The project, introduced by the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority in partnership with the Sharjah Central Finance Department, connects toll gates to the emirate’s digital payment platform for secure, cashless transactions.
Using sensors and artificial intelligence, the system automatically reads truck data and collects fees without vehicles stopping, reducing congestion, cutting transit times and improving accuracy. Payments are processed through the ‘Tahseel’ smart gateway, ensuring real-time reporting while also helping lower emissions by reducing truck idle time.
