Sharjah has launched a new ship to transport passengers and supplies to the Sir Bu Nair Island Reserve. Measuring 140 feet in length and 30 feet in width, the vessel can accommodate up to 80 passengers and features lounges, guest cabins, freezing and refrigeration rooms, high-efficiency power generators, and two diesel engines with a combined 1,440 horsepower.
Located 85 km from Abu Dhabi’s northern coast and 110 km west of Sharjah, Sir Bu Nair Island opens to the public only once a year during its annual festival.
Celebrating its 25th edition, the festival offers sunrise boat tours with dolphin spotting, snorkelling at the coral farm, stargazing, the opening of the Sir Bu Nair Garden, and other marine activities. The island hosts around 40 coral and 70 fish species, including rare varieties recorded for the first time in the region. Its waters are also home to sharks and rays, such as the threatened Blacktip Reef Shark.
