Sharjah Municipality has started issuing permits for businesses to prepare and display food during daytime hours in Ramadan, setting out regulations and fees for restaurants, cafeterias and food retailers.
The Dh3,000 food preparation permit allows kitchens and outlets, including those in malls, to cook during fasting hours but prohibits dine-in service. All preparation must take place داخل kitchen areas only.
A separate Dh500 permit is required to display food in front of shops before iftar, covering restaurants, cafeterias, sweet shops and bakeries.
Displayed food must be placed in stainless steel containers inside airtight glass cases at least one metre high, fitted with sliding or hinged doors. Items must be covered with aluminium foil or transparent food-grade plastic and kept at suitable temperatures without refrigeration or freezing.
Applications can be made through the municipality’s commercial licensing portal.
