Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has unveiled the largest expansion of the Dubai Metro with the new “Gold Line,” a Dh34-billion project set for completion on September 9, 2032. The 42km fully underground line will connect the Red and Green Lines and integrate with Etihad Rail.
Announced on April 22, the line will pass through 15 key areas, improving connectivity across Dubai’s growing districts. It is expected to reduce over 40 million journeys annually, ease congestion—including a 23% reduction on the Red Line—and enhance traffic flow and sustainability.
By 2040, the Gold Line is projected to serve 465,000 passengers daily and support more than 55 real estate developments. It will expand the metro network from 120km to 162km and increase stations from 67 to 85.
The route will run from Al Ghubaiba to Jumeirah Golf Estates, linking major hubs such as Business Bay, Meydan, and Jumeirah Village Circle, while connecting with existing metro lines and Etihad Rail. Tendering is expected in 2026, with construction to follow in 2027.
