Six main streets have over 13 km of new dedicated lanes for buses and taxis

Over 13 km of new dedicated lanes have been added to six major streets: Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, 2nd of December, Al Satwa, Al Nahda, Omar bin Al Khattab, and Naif. The project would expand Dubai's network of dedicated bus lanes by more than 20km, and it is anticipated to be finished between 2025 and 2027.

These designated lanes encourage residents to use public transportation rather than their own vehicles, according to director general and head of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Board of Directors Mattar Al Tayer.

Dubai currently has seven kilometers of dedicated lanes. A few of them are located on Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road. In Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Al Ghubaiba, and Naif, several sections of the streets now have additional lanes. The RTA estimates that the three previous project phases reduced the average duration for some routes by five minutes each bus, representing a 24% improvement in bus trip times.

Bus travel times during peak hours are predicted to drop dramatically with the addition of dedicated bus lanes, with reductions ranging from 24 to 59 percent. On dedicated routes, improvements in bus arrival times are expected to range from 28 to 56 percent.

On some roads, extending the lanes is anticipated to increase public transportation usage by up to 30%.
