TDRA unveiled an extensive strategy to initiate research and studies concerning the advancement of 6G connectivity

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) launched a comprehensive strategy on Wednesday to lead research and studies on the advancement of sixth-generation mobile networks (6G connectivity). The UAE plans to move to 6G by 2030, building on its 5G rollout in 2018, while continuing to develop the advanced 5G network (5.5G), according to the TDRA.

The TDRA's 6G roadmap, which will begin in 2024, will create a committee to push scientific investigations, research, and technical standards creation, the organization stated. The authority has announced that Khalifa University will lead this initiative, cooperating with worldwide platforms such as the ITU, IEEE, and 3GPP, as well as manufacturers, operators, and the TDRA.

Strategic relationships with the industrial, academic, and government sectors are intended to enable 6G tests, which will be enabled by the TDRA's availability of frequencies and regulatory frameworks. The TDRA stated that these studies, which use the 'ICT Regulatory Sandbox,' aim to introduce and extensively embrace 6G services in the UAE before 2030.

The UAE's 6G strategy is consistent with global environmental goals, seeking to minimize carbon emissions and energy usage. This effort aims to provide high-quality, smart, and secure connection that benefits society and the economy.
