The UAE has declared Monday, June 15, a public holiday for public and private sector employees to mark the Islamic New Year, creating a three-day weekend across the country. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) confirmed that federal government employees will have the day off in observance of the Hijri year 1448 AH.
As the holiday follows the regular Saturday-Sunday weekend, employees will enjoy a three-day break before returning to work on Tuesday, June 16.
The Islamic New Year marks the start of the Islamic lunar calendar and commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) migration from Mecca to Medina, known as the Hijra.
