Dubai residents can now experience driverless taxi rides in select areas by choosing the ‘Autonomous’ option on the Uber app. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that WeRide robotaxis are now integrated into Uber’s services. As part of a limited promotion, the first 50 autonomous trips are free, provided the fare does not exceed Dh500, with the offer valid until January 2026.
The service is limited to two approved zones, meaning journeys must start and end within designated areas. To book, users must be close to an authorised pick-up point. Open the Uber app, tap “Where to?”, enter your destination, and view the available ride options.
If autonomous rides are unavailable at your location, a message reading “Autonomous available at select locations” will appear. Tapping it opens a map showing 20 approved pick-up and drop-off points across Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim, including La Mer Beach, Jumeirah Mosque, Jumeirah Public Beach, Four Seasons Resort, and Kite Beach.
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide on how to book a free driverless Uber ride in Dubai.
- Open the Uber app and look for the prompt “100 per cent off Autonomous; expires on Jan 29, 2026” at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the prompt to see the offer details: 100% off on your next 50 rides, up to Dh500 per ride. Select “Book Now.”
- On the “Plan your ride” page, choose your pick-up and drop-off locations within the approved autonomous service areas.
- Select “Autonomous,” confirm your pick-up point, and request the ride.
- Your driverless taxi is booked. Wait times may range from five to over 20 minutes, and a safety specialist will be on board during the trip.
