In a historic agreement announced Thursday, Abu Dhabi will house the largest AI data center in the world. This will be the first international rollout of OpenAI's cutting-edge infrastructure platform, Stargate.
The location of Stargate UAE will be at the recently announced UAE–US AI Campus in Abu Dhabi, which was unveiled last week in front of US President Donald J. Trump and UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Oracle, NVIDIA, Cisco, SoftBank, and G42, an AI startup supported by the UAE's sovereign wealth fund, are among the major tech companies collaborating on the development of the new 5-gigawatt AI complex. The entire UAE–US AI infrastructure campus, which covers 10 square miles, is the biggest of its kind outside of the US. It will supply regional computational resources and 5 gigawatts of AI data center capacity.
In addition to housing a research park that fosters innovation, talent development, and sustainable compute infrastructure, the site will be fueled by nuclear, solar, and natural gas to reduce carbon emissions. The Stargate UAE data center will also be substantially bigger when finished than any prior building constructed by OpenAI or its closest competitors. The enormous capacity of the facility will be far greater than the 1.2 gigawatts that Stargate's first US campus in Abilene, Texas, is expected to have.
Through this partnership, the UAE will also be the first nation to provide ChatGPT services across the country, integrating the technology across government agencies and important industries like healthcare, education, and energy. Additionally, ChatGPT-Plus memberships will be given to all UAE citizens, guaranteeing that everyone in the nation can use OpenAI's products.
