The UAE's moon sighting committee has announced that Thursday, June 5th, will be Arafat Day this year.
The Day of Arafah, or Arafat Day, is a very important day for Muslims worldwide. It occurs on the ninth day of the Islamic month of Dhu Al Hijjah, which is about 70 days after Ramadan ends and only one day before Eid Al Adha. Arafat Day is a day of prayer, unity, and spiritual reflection that honors a significant moment in the Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj.
Arafat is the name of a mountain in Saudi Arabia that is close to the city of Mecca. On this day, during his last trip, the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) gave his parting speech to a crowd of more than 100,000 Muslims. Millions of Muslims travel from all around the world each year to do the Hajj, with Arafat Day marking the peak of their journey. Near Mount Arafat, pilgrims congregate in plain white clothing to pray and reflect.
Muslims consider this day to be a day of blessings and significant benefits for those who fast.
