New plan in Dubai to improve traffic flow; will expand implementation of remote work policies

The public and private sectors will be using flexible work schedules and remote work regulations more widely as part of a new initiative to enhance Dubai's traffic flow. Reducing traffic congestion throughout Dubai is the goal. The implementation schedule and method of the policy were not immediately apparent. Dubai's authorities had earlier conducted a thorough poll to learn more about the ways that remote work and flexible scheduling could reduce traffic, particularly during rush hours.

Dubai offices are equipped with the digital infrastructure needed to enable workers to work remotely in an emergency. Both government and commercial sector offices went online following record-breaking rains in mid-April and early-May, allowing staff members to work from home.

Creating priority public bus routes is another component of the traffic flow strategy that the Executive Council authorized on Wednesday in an effort to decrease travel times by as much as 59%. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) previously announced plans to extend the dedicated bus lanes network in Dubai to a distance of more than 20 kilometers. The lanes are expected to be completed by 2025 or 2027.

In order to "improve traffic flow around schools by 13 percent," the traffic flow plan also calls for the creation of a policy encouraging kids to use school transportation.
