"Suhail," the world's first jet-powered firefighting drone, was launched by the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, May 28. The drone was introduced at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, at the UAE Pavilion.
The drone can approach hotspots that are inaccessible by hand because of its intelligent systems, and improves the efficiency and speed of firefighting. For accurate mapping, target detection, and obstacle avoidance, it uses state-of-the-art computer vision and LiDAR-based 3D scanning. It also has integrated smart systems that allow for vertical flight, precision maneuvering, and effective performance under challenging circumstances.
The drone was tested by the authorities using a technical team from the UAE-based company Drone First Building Services and the Civil Defense.
