Dubai’s RTA has introduced the Automated Railway Infrastructure Inspection System (ARIIS), using AI to improve maintenance efficiency, enhance safety, and replace time-consuming traditional inspections in the transport sector. With this cutting-edge technology, Dubai Metro's operational maintenance has advanced significantly, supporting the city's goal of being a global leader in artificial intelligence and sustainable infrastructure.
Using cutting-edge diagnostic technologies, the innovative AI-driven robotic inspection system makes it possible to implement preventive maintenance plans, extending the life of infrastructure and lowering periodic maintenance expenses by up to 25%. Moreover, real-time data analytics provide accurate and knowledgeable maintenance choices, reducing needless interventions and increasing resource management effectiveness by 40%.
The ARIIS has been successful in decreasing traditional inspection operations by up to 70% and the time needed for periodic inspections by 75% since it was put into place. This is comparable to saving around 1,700 human working hours. The metro network's overall reliability has increased, maintenance procedures have accelerated, emergency interventions have decreased, and infrastructure condition assessment skills have improved by 40%.
According to the RTA, the system is presently being implemented gradually on a few metro lines, with a full rollout planned for all routes after a satisfactory technical and operational assessment.
