The eighth International Day of Yoga (IDY) will be hosted in the UAE, with significant activities taking place all throughout the nation. Numerous unusual events are planned to commemorate the day, which is celebrated under the theme "Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (yoga for everyone), from a restorative session under the magnificent dome of the Louvre Abu Dhabi to the Indian military ship with more than 200 sailors scheduled to stop on Port Rashid in Dubai.
The UN General Assembly recognised the "holistic benefits of the ancient Indian practise and its inherent compatibility with the principles and values" of the UN in 2014, at which point it created the annual day. The efforts of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spread awareness of yoga throughout the world paid off with this distinction.
Mass yoga sessions are being organised across the world on this day, which has kind of turned into a worldwide festival. The Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium hosted the largest International Yoga Day celebration in Abu Dhabi last year, with more than 5,000 members of the local community attending.
Similar activities will be held in several locations this year thanks to a collaboration between Indian missions there and regional businesses, organisations, and organisations. Even though admission to these programmes is free, you must register in advance to get a spot on the mat.
Here is all the information on the activities that will take place from this Saturday until June 21.
Louvre Abu Dhabi, for the second straight year, will take part in the festivities with a morning session on Saturday that is organised in conjunction with the Indian Embassy. “Participate in this international event and experience the restorative serenity of a place that harness the energy of the sun, sea, and wind,” the museum said in its website post.
According to the embassy, a special session will include officials from other embassies. Following a short yoga practice for all ages and skill levels, a video message from Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, will be shown on this special day. Yoga mats will be available inside the museum, but visitors are also welcome to bring their own. The no-cost session will take place on Saturday from 8 to 9 a.m. Reservations must be made in advance and may be done at https://www.louvreabudhabi.ae/en/programmes/International-Yoga-Day.
On Saturday, the Science India Forum (SIF) UAE will celebrate the day with a performance in the school auditorium in collaboration with Musaffah Art Society and its Bani Yas branch and with the assistance of Bright Riders School, Abu Dhabi. The event will be held in cooperation with DP World, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi in Dubai at the DP World Cruise Terminal, Port Rashid. A ship from the Indian Navy will dock at Port Rashid and take part in the IDY 2023 celebrations with more than 200 sailors on board. The primary guest will be Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade. A special visitor will be Commander Abhilash Tomy, the first Indian to finish the solo Golden Globe Race. From 7am until 9am, there will be festivities at Terminal 3.
The biggest exposition facility in the Middle East, Abu Dhabi National Exposition Centre (ADNEC), will host an event on June 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to round off the festivities of International Yoga Day. According to the Indian Embassy, the event will take place in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Along with Sunjay Sudhir, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Sheikh Nahyan will participate in the yoga session as the primary guest. Participants of all ages and genders are anticipated, as well as representatives from the community's schools, groups, associations, and sports clubs. Through https://www.adsc.ae/en/events/international-day-of-yoga-2023/, registration is free.
On June 21 (6pm to 8.30pm), Open Circle Yoga, an Abu Dhabi-based yoga studio, will host a free event.
