The Emirates ID renewal procedure will now be more simpler and faster thanks to a significant upgrade made by the United Arab Emirates. The change is applicable to UAE citizens renewing their crucial Emirates ID, as announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security on Tuesday, September 9.
In an effort to reduce the amount of bureaucracy in the UAE government, the ICP is launching two new services that do away with the need to provide extraneous information when renewing.
Rather than having to go through several procedures, UAE citizens will now benefit from automatic renewal with only one step. Just filling out an application and paying the necessary costs constitutes this step.
The validity period is automatically calculated based on the citizen's age.
The renewed Emirates ID will be valid for five years if the applicant is 21 years of age or under. However, the Emirates ID will be valid for ten years if the applicant is 21 years of age or older.
The updated Emirates ID renewal system now applies only to UAE citizens, following a similar process recently introduced for passports. This streamlined service is part of the UAE’s Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, designed to reduce red tape and save time.
