In a 'Safety and Security' program broadcast that can be viewed on YouTube, Abu Dhabi Police highlighted some important driving regulations.
Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Khalfan Al Kaabi of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic Points Program Department confirmed in the broadcast that a probationary driver's license will be canceled if they exceed a limit.
According to the regulations, drivers under 21 who accumulate 24 traffic points will face one of two consequences:
- Their driving licence will be suspended for six months, or
- They can regain their licence by completing a one-day rehabilitation course and paying a fine of Dh2,400.
However, Al Kaabi also stated that a driver under 21 will have their license permanently revoked if they receive 24 traffic points again. A year following the cancellation of their permission, they will not be eligible to seek for another license.
Permanent Driving Licence Regulations:
- For drivers aged 21 and above holding permanent licences, accumulating 24 traffic points results in two possible outcomes:
- A three-month suspension of their driving licence, or
- Completion of a one-day rehabilitation course, payment of a Dh2,400 fine, and participation in the traffic points programme.
However, the driver's license will be banned for six months and they will have to pay Dh2,400 and attend a one-day rehabilitation course if they hit the traffic point limit again in less than a year.
The official explained that traffic points vary by violation severity and stay on record for a year. Running a red light adds 12 points, while endangering lives carries 23 points. Points reset if under 24.
