Dubai announced summer 2025 flexible work schedules for government employees. The program will be implemented at the discretion of each organization and is scheduled to start on July 1 and run until September 12, 2025, according to the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR).
The official five-day workweek will be in line with the interim flexible working arrangement. Two sets of workers will be assigned; the first group will be required to work eight hours Monday through Thursday and take Friday off. The second group will work seven hours Monday through Thursday and four and a half hours on Friday. The program will be carried out at the discretion of each body.
An initiative of this kind has been announced before. The initiative was started by the Dubai government last year at 21 government agencies between August 12 and September 30.
The initiative's pilot phase outcomes demonstrated improved work environments and increased productivity. Data analyzing the program also showed that employees were happier and more satisfied, with 98% of them expressing this sentiment on the measuring system.
A two-and-a-half-day weekend is enjoyed by the majority of Dubai government workers (Friday half-day, Saturday and Sunday). This program will extend the weekend for employees at participating government agencies.
